- פִּיּוּטm. (פוט, v. פּטפט) talk, story-telling.Pl. פִּיּוּטִין. Gen. R. s. 85 (ref. to the disregard of chronological order in the Book of Daniel) שלא יאמרו דברי פ׳ הם כדיוכ׳ that people should not say, they are merely historical annals; in order that all should know that he (Daniel) told it by holy inspiration; Yalk. ib. 144 שלא יאמר פ׳ הוא (corr. acc.); Yalk. Dan. 1063.(In liturgy פיוט: hymn, esp. applied to alphabetical acrostics; v. פַּיְיטָן.
